We’re proud to share that Elemental Lux™, our cultivated animal leather, is now part of funded
evaluation and prototyping programmes with two of the world’s leading luxury fashion houses.
Elemental Lux™ is real animal leather, grown from cells rather than taken from livestock. Over the past
months we have moved from early conversations and preliminary testing into structured agreements,
with each partner exploring the material for its own high-end leather goods.
These are not exploratory trials. Both programmes are funded by our partners, follow clear milestones,
and are designed to lead toward physical luxury prototypes.
Where we are today
Our first samples of engineered cultivated skin have been produced and delivered to our first luxury
partner, who is now evaluating their quality and structure in-house. Initial milestone payments have
already been invoiced.
For our second partner, we are supplying calibrated material along with detailed biological profiling. Our
partner is putting it through its own tanning trials in an industrial tannery, testing how Elemental Lux™
takes up tanning agents, copes with heat, holds its collagen structure and accepts dye evenly. It is
exactly the kind of real-world test a new luxury material needs to pass.
From the lab to the atelier
In the first half of 2027, we will deliver larger sheets of Elemental Lux™, roughly A4 in size, to our second
partner.
These sheets will undergo full ISO mechanical testing for strength, stretch, tear resistance and stitch-
tear strength, tested side by side with conventional cow leather. Our partner’s artisans will also craft
physical prototype pieces in their workshop, judging how the material feels, drapes and works by hand,
and how it takes the fine edge-finishing that luxury goods demand. We hope to extend prototyping
across both partnerships.
If this stage succeeds, it will set the production specifications for formal proof-of-concept and supply
agreements, which we hope to sign during 2027.
Built for luxury
Our goal has always been a cultivated leather that fits straight into existing luxury supply chains, working
with the tanneries and craftspeople the industry already relies on. Every result from these programmes
will be measured against the minimum standards that luxury use requires.
Elemental Lux™ is grown using macromolecular crowding technology from our sister company, 3D Bio-
Tissues. It recreates the crowded environment cells experience in the body, helping them build the
collagen structure that gives leather its strength. The technology received a US patent allowance on 20
October 2026.
A word from leadership
Che Connon, Chief Executive Officer of our parent company BSF Enterprise PLC, said:
“These evaluation agreements for our Elemental Lux™ material with two leading luxury
fashion houses represent a clear operational progression for Lab-Grown Leather.
Rather than exploratory sampling, our work is now structured around partner-funded
technical deliverables – combining proprietary tanning trials, ISO mechanical
benchmarking, and the scheduled delivery of large-format sheets for artisan prototype
fabrication.”
We can’t wait to see Elemental Lux™ in the hands of master craftspeople, and we look forward to
sharing more as the programmes progress.
